Thanks. I really liked the colour of this. It was very nice gleaming in that sun.

I've spotted this again about 6-7 times since this photo was taken as the couple that own it are local. But I haven't taken any more photos since then.

I recently saw one in a color slightly darker than this with a ragtop, might post up a shot soon. Once again nice shot Luke!

I agree Luke this is a very cool spot. No doubt that the design says elegance and style.

WillyL since John hasn't gotten back here to answer your questions, I will step into the breach. First, the Silver Dawn is built on the Silver Spur platform, i.e. long wheelbase. So the Dawn would be the same 4 inches longer than your Silver Spirit II. While the Silver Dawn is a rare car, there is a reason for that, it was not a popular car. It was the entry level Rolls-Royce in it's time. Rolls-Royce took the Silver Spur, and eliminated thousands of dollars worth of goods, to lower the price dramatically. They took out the rear vanity mirrors on either side of the rear seat. Eliminated the picnic trays. The mouton over-rugs. Removed the hide covering on many obscure spots and covered in cheaper materials, there was less veneered woodwork, and on and on, in that vein.

But a strange thing happened. Customers would come in and order a Silver Dawn, but then started ordering all of those things that had been removed! When the dealer finally added up the price of your order, it was back to being as expensive as a standard Silver Spur. And so, they just ended up buying a Silver Spur! Which made sense. But soon, the dealers were hard pressed to sell people a Silver Dawn, and Rolls-Royce cancelled the model. This did have the upside of causing them to be rare. But not for exactly the reason you'd think.

In every important way though, still completely a Rolls-Royce in every regard. Probably a good buy for the second hand buyer.

This car does look very nice in the Wildberry. And a great spot. Thanks 21Luke21

John please tell us the difference between a Silver Dawn and a Spirit / Spur. I have a Spirit II 1990, but cant tell the difference, although I can see this one is a later one

The guy was with his wife in the window of a cafe keeping a close watch on it. It was his first ever car :) So glad to hear that he had kept it for so long! He was roughly late 50's.

Great quality shot, I wonder what the Rolls experts have to say. I suppose we'll hear from them soon.
