I haven't used acdsee since the 90s, so I can't really say anymore. I think the thing with Lightroom is the organization and non destructive editing that is remembered for as long as your OS installation survives. In terms of photo tweaking its kinda similar to rawtherapee.com , so see if you like that. But Adobe is being pretty reasonable with the pricing. 150 bucks and then half price upgrades after that is pretty good. And it does go on sale from time to time. So its worth something in the long run. If you like it.
