Ferrari F355 spotted in Canterbury, New Zealand

Details on This Ferrari F355:

  • Location
    Canterbury, New Zealand
  • Description
This is a photo taken by my classmates Dad's friend who lives in Rangiora. He had taken this photo of his two cars which are as pictured a Ferrari F355 Berlinetta and a McLaren M6GTR which is the only one in NZ which was driven by Bruce McLaren. My mates Dad's friend bought this in 1987 and has had it ever since. This is an incredibly rare combo for NZ because of that McLaren M6 GTR.

Nice!! And I'm not too sure to be honest with you, think he lives in a rather expensive area. Lives in a rather large house on a street with not too many other houses I believe, but I don't know the exact street.

I meant to type Rangiora, not Reniora haha. I have no clue where I got Reniora from...

Yeah I looked it up, you're right. I made a tiny little spelling error there, thanks for the info!

Thanks for the information Hairyspotter. I didn't know any of that haha. Wow... They misspelled McLaren... Common Rookie Mistake! Haha. And it sucks that Denny Hulme died! That Hulme Supercar looks sick! I'd love to spot one.

Just an update for Lamborarri - it would've been Denny (not Danny) Hulme, a well-known driver who raced in Formula 1 in the '60's in Europe.
He died of a heart attack while driving in the 1992 Bathurst race in Australia. He was on Conrod Straight, the fastest part of the track, and slowly veered off and scraped the wall not that hard at all. Taken by chopper to hospital but if I recall correctly was DOA.

Thanks Missoni1! What would you choose out of this combo? I'd take the M6GTR for rarity and weekend use! I'd still take the F355 as a daily driver though!

cool combo... I like

Thanks imola_be. Yes, fine replicas are incredibly rare too. I believe this is a replica using a real shell from McLaren. McLaren made 3 M6GT's but made a shell by itself too. So most replicas are made with the use of a real M6GT shell. Anyway, even if it is a replica, it is still beautiful. And yes, I love the plate on the F355 too. It's a good looking toy, but i bet it's expensive. Still an incredibly rare combo shot.

@Jafo, thanks for the L/F! I have always loved McLaren too, and to find out this was in NZ made my day! Loving the F355 too though :)
@West, thanks too! I loved sharing this shot. I love this combo. I'd take the McLaren M6GTR. What would you take?
Thanks everyone for the kind comments, likes and favourites. I appreciate it.

Probably the same guy, I have indeed heard of the Hulme F1.

Thanks for the info Lamborarri. I wouldn't have known anything about it if you hadn't stated. If you search up the Hulme Supercar, you will see New Zealand's first Supercar. It looks similar to the Caparo T1.

If I could step in here, Bruce did indeed drive a real M6 GT, but it was the original red prototype with the license plate number "OB 500H". He drove it from when it was built until hisdeath in 1970, at which point it had only 1900 miles on the odometer. His car was sold to a man named Danny Hulme in New Zealand, and it now resides in the Matthews Collection not far from Denver, Colorado, where it is still in its' original condition.

Exactly what I thought :) Tbh, I thought it was real, but it clearly is a very good replica that could fool anyone, until you saw the price tag. I'd be suspicious too, but I just didn't think about it I guess. I still love that fact that Bruce McLaren drove this as his road car, which makes this pretty special.
