I posted the before/after in the forum. I didn't tone down the background because I actually liked the setting of the photo (except the bike's yellow bag, which I desaturated a bit, and a big glare spot on the window of the Acadia, which I removed).

If you want to make it better, try running a gradient on the side panels to take away major distractions
