Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows of a nice, cheap, but good DSLR. And I honestly dont want a D3300. For example I am thinking about cameras like the Sony SLT A58, Nikon D5100, that kind of stuff.

You're just gonna waste a couple hundred bucks on a D5x00. They're not much of an upgrade over a D3300 unless you have to have a folding screen. If you're going Nikon, I'd recommend either a D3300, or jumping up a couple levels to a D7x00.

Okay. Also what is your opinion on Sony Alpha SLT series?

I don't know as much about Sony. I just know that I like my D3300, and whenever I upgrade, it will definitely be at least a D7x00 series.

OK cool. Now that I look, I may look into the D7000 it may be old but it seems like a great camera.

I bought a D7000 after my D3000, and it's a great camera. Especially with a 50mm f/1.8g. The battery lasts a whole day, and it has 2 SD card slots so you don't have to change those either when one of them is full.

Sounds great. Definitely a bit more expensive than my other options but I will consider it for sure!

Might not be on your list and this is merely a suggestion, but I've heard great things about the Canon T3i. Would have recommended the D3300 but you said you didn't want it.

I happen to love my D3300. It does everything I want it to and way more honestly. I have the kit lens (18-55), a 70-300, and a prime 50mm f/1.8. Great camera for spotting too because it's surprisingly small and quite light. Great quality images too, however if I have one critique the ISO is very unpredictable on auto. That gets annoying. But I don't shoot auto anymore so it's all good lol

Canon EOS Rebel T3 with an 18-200mm lens. Does the job well.

Also, IMO, it doesn't really matter what DSLR you have. You just have to be a good photographer who knows how to use composition and editing skills. You can have a $2000.00 camera and take cr*ppy pictures while somebody else could have a $500.00 camera and take amazing pictures.

If you want something different, you might look into a Pentax K-50 or K-3. I'm interested in buying one myself, and I've read good things about both.
