However, that production figure can be broken down into 2 categories: the 840Ci built between 1992-1996 and the 1995-1999. The difference between those 2, is that the earlier 1992-1996 840Cis used a 4 liter M60B40 engine while the 1995-1999 were upgraded to a newer 4.4 liter M60B44 engine.
1992-1996 production: 4,728
1995-1999 production: 3,075

Edit: They aren't the rarest normal 8 series. The rarest regulary produced 8 series is the 850Ci of which only 1,218 were built between 1994-1999.
