Not sure how well this will be received, but I'll throw this out there anyway...

My idea is that maybe the the "featured" section should be removed, leaving the default tab on "all." What I am thinking could be done is maybe remove some of the "less" exotic cars such as the BMW M5 & M6, Porsche 911 (the 911 Turbo should be the lowest exotic in the 911 line), and maybe the Tesla Model S.

My reasoning for this is that some unfeatured shots are outstanding, sometimes better than anything on the featured page, but unless they are moved to the "featured" tab by a moderator, not everyone will see it.

What do you think? Please don't just submit a vote, respond with your answer so others can read : )

What if it's a really good shot of a 911 or a Tesla?

to many excellent shots go unnoticed. simple as that. Not everyone has the oppurtunity to see the featured cars every day. for example my first pic of the delorean in the snow got 189 likes...second on i just uploaded got pushed off the first page in 30 minutes and was unfeatured...http://www.exoticspotter.com/delorean-dmc-12-yarmouth-maine-143503.. I think it should include everyone more and make everyone feel better about there shots.

The problem is that people's idea of "exotic" varies by where they live. Here in NC, I see 911's, Model S's, M5's, and M6's every day, so I don't really consider them exotic anymore. But you might live in an area where there aren't many 911's or Model S's, so they seem exotic to you.

I'm not saying either of us is right or wrong. We don't really have much control over where we live right now.

I do think, though, that once a car reaches a certain production number, it doesn't qualify as an exotic. Porsche sells about 900 911's per month in the U.S., so they'll end up selling about 10,000-11,000 units per year, which is pretty common.

If this is implemented, the increase in cars allowed onto the front page will increase the speed by which the cars that used to be featured leave the front page. While this does help increase the likes/favs of current unfeatured cars, it also would decrease the likes/favs in photos of all the cars in general. Do you get what I mean? In essence, the featured page would become the "All" page as it is now.

Increasing exposure to worthy, unfeatured photos is great but I think there's a better way to go about doing this that hasn't been discovered yet.

I agree with this. The problem is, what is the better way to go about doing this?

A better way to do this is that if a car is unfeatured, there could be a voting system where if the car should be featured. If it receives enough votes, it could be on the front page. Then again, there could be some serious spotter discrimination as people would most likely be voting for it to be on the front page because of the spotter, and not the spot itself.

And then there are the trolls who vote no for every photo...

There have been threads on this in the past and I really don't think it's a good idea. The featured page is there so the good spots do not get buried by the hundreds of Bentleys, Porsches, and Maseratis that people post. Some people don't bother to click on the all page but I always so and people seem to still look at my photos that don't make the featured page so I don't mind. The good stuff is moved on to the featured page anyways.

That's ONE improvement on ES that I like. I think they do this so people aren't tempted to move it to the wrong category just so their shots are featured.

Also, if there is a really excellent shot of an unfeatured car, the mods will usually feature. For example, recently a really good shot of a Bentley Continental was featured. And remember that blue Maserati GranTurismo in South Africa? Basically, even if a car is unfeatured, a really good shot of one will get the views, likes, and favorites they deserve, so there's really no reason to change around the categories.

A lot of times, people comment on a photo that it should be featured, and that actually works a lot.

Yes, I get exactly what you are saying. I thought that maybe removing some of the less exotic cars could remedy that. Most of the higher-ranking users don't already post Maserati's or Bentley's unless the shot(s) are outstanding.

There are some really rare 911s. Just saying. The Ruff, RWBs, and Singers would all be deleted if they removed the category so i really dont think that one should be removed.
