It doesn't really matter, actually. Go to a camera store and just try one and see how it feels. Find one that you're comfortable with. At that price it's not going to be the best camera, so just get one that will be easy to use and get good with. I got a Nikon D3100 and it was a perfect start for me and I was comfortable with it. But other people have had the same experience with Canon, and the image quality isn't necessarily any better between either one. So just get one where you feel you can get technically good and the photos will be fine. Then after that you can upgrade to something more powerful.
