I've played around with an L820 a couple of times and liked it. I'd have to try the Canon out before I made my choice, but I'd probably go with the Nikon.

just bought a canon IXUS 135, havent had the chance too shoot many cars yet, but i practiced on some derelict cars i see frequently and its fantastic, however im not sure if they look as good as the few shots i took with a friends nikon 1 (the ford gt40 and radical on my page were taken with it) will have too wait untill i photograph a moving car before i can have a fair comparation.

for me: nikon for photo quality, canon for user friendliness (so far)

Nikon all the way.
Having used both a D3200 and a EOS 300D for reasonable amounts of time. I much prefer my nikon.

I'm a Nikon guy, so I would say go with the L820.
I've used a cool pix in the past, a great camera for a point and shoot.

i highly recommend getting a D3200 or D5100 if you're willing to pitch in that extra buck.
