i just read the post in the blog where people were complaining about this system and people seemed to like the old one better. since my account is only about 2-3 months old, i don't know what they are talking about.

There was no rating system before this. All people had was a displayable quality score and that didn't rank anyone in any way.

Instead of the spotter ranking, you had a quality score of 1-100. If your quality score was below 90, your spots would get moderated before being displayed on the site. Your score would go down if your shots got flagged, etc.
I think they still have the quality score, just it isn't displayed anymore.
