i dont get how the system works

Likes + favorites and some other stuff perhaps go into some sort of algorithm and translate to a score which is then translated into a ranking. For example, andrew has the highest score thus giving him the rank #1.

Exactly.

Yeah but for example Fast-auto with only 24 photos uploaded is on the first page :/

Yeah, 24 jaw dropping photos. Quality > quantity.

Oh thank goodness. I went to my page and thought I had a quality score of 13 and freaked out. Good idea here!

Wait, I can already see a problem with this:

I'm worried that the higher-rated people won't like lower-rated people's photos because they want to protect their spot.

I don't think any higher rated person is going to care. If they don't like the photo, chances are they wouldn't have liked it with the old system anyway.

Liking someone's image can't harm your rating. Why it should?
We don't use non-obvious metrics to build the rating.

i'm trying to figure out why jason has a higher ranking than me
and the only thing i can think of is that he post alot of photos that get alot of negative comments... and normal exotic uploads usually get low comments so he is getting more comments for the wrong reason

so with comments having a factor in this is it the amount of comments or something like that?
