So my dad and I are debating on whether or not we should go original with our '86 3.2, or do a backdate to look like a 1973 RS. I actually like the slantnose 930 look, but my dad is not a huge fan.

Here are some specs on the car as it sits;
-3.2 flat 6 (original engine)
-Black w/tan interior
-Porsche "Cup 1" wheels
-Condition: Good daily driver

If we ever get around to it, we are thinking this would be our summer project..

Here are the choices:

-How it looks today

-No backdate, add Carrera RS stripe, original wing.

-Full backdate, lose the wing, RS/RSR fenders

-Slant nose, I wish... but probably won't happen.

Let me know what ya think.

Here are the two wheel choices too...

The original "Fuchs" wheels. (With 'Champagne/Gold' colored centers)

Or the wheels as pictured in the first shot in the post above...

Definitely keep it original. An original stock 911 that hasn't been modified by owners converting it in to something else will be an appreciating asset and will continue to get rarer. When it comes time to sell the car you will be happy you kept it original (or have a very hard time selling it if you didn't). Unlike Pantera owners, Porsche buyers want everything just like it came new from Stuttgart. If you want a hopped up Porsche sell this one and go buy one someone else has already made. Don't ruin one in nice original shape.

Personally I love the Slantnose but so many have been converted already and most of the conversions are not very good. Adding the Carrera writing to the side looks pretty good and would be reversible so that would be alright.

i would keep it original too, but if you do want a hopped up one, dont buy someone else's. the whole point is to look at it and be able to know that you built it and it was your vision

Yeah but you will spend far more on modifications than the car is worth. It makes much more financial sense to buy a car someone has already modified.

If you plan on selling the car, most owners want an oridginal car :)

Your advice is good for someone that is planning to sell the car. There is no plan to sell it quite yet. However, our exit strategy is my Dad's friend in Colorado. He's a long-time Porsche owner and this is right up his ally.

If you don't ever plan on selling it and don't mind spending more than it's worth then more power to you. If it were me, I think I would put Fuch wheels on it and leave it as is. Back dated 911s are really cool but there is a reason Singer 911s cost ~$400,000. Stuff like that can get super expensive to do.
