Well, @Penguins, I'm not suggesting we start adding more models that aren't already being posted, just that we add categories for the ones that are getting shoved into "Other Other" and "Other Vintage". Like the Maserati Mistral I recently spotted, which didn't have a category.

And for clarification, the reason why I started this conversation, because I was bent out of shape that a Bentley Continental R was getting shoved into the Continental category, which is ridiculous.

Plus some other categories that have been missed, like Lambo 350GT.

And finally, some distinction of special editions that would allow the base car to still not be featured, but the improved version featured, like R8 vs R8 GT, and Viper vs Viper ACR or Time Attack.

For a car like the Gallardo or F430 that are always going to be featured, I'd have to agree, no reason to start including all the special versions of them.

Usually it seems like things such as the Viper ACRs and R8 GTs get featured. People can confuse those models anyway and put cars in the wrong category.

If someone adds something like a Scuderia category, that means someone else has to sort through thousands of photos to put all the Scuderias in the new category. Its not like the photos just sort themselves.

I agree with Jon. The best idea is just to create the basic categories for the cars, rather than making categories for every single different model.

Agreed

However, i wouldn't mind some more Lotus categories. Especially the Elan.

And the Morgan 3-Wheeler.

And the Auburn Boattail Speedster.

Wouldn't it just be a "going forward" thing? I wouldn't expect that all F430's spotted previously have to be sifted through... and besides, maybe you missed, but I agree that if a car's going to be featured anyways, no need to add special editions. So long as the F430 is still featured, no need for Scuderia.

Well, except sometimes when I see what I think is a particularly good shot of a car, I like to see how it stacks up against all other spots of the same model. In this respect, it would be nice to have the ability to just see all the Scuderias or 16M's. But this is admittedly a luxury which might not justify the work involved in introducing new categories, I can see that.

And, perhaps the 360 could be downgraded from featured, and the CS added, and then only the CS featured, again, just going forward.

I still don't think all these specific categories are a good idea. What if it's a base F430 with Scud wheels and it gets posted under Scuderia? With the amount of mods that go onto cars these days, it will trip up anyone who doesn't look too closely. I find it safer to just post under F430 and have all variants under that, than to break it apart even further.

Yes, but what I've noticed is that, when someone posts a car under the wrong category, someone else will notify them of the mistake, and the poster will usually change it to the correct one. For example, Christian posted what he thought was a Rolls Royce Corniche, but was alerted that he had actually spotted a Silver Seraph, and was more than willing to change it.

I definitely think that some cars - especially very limited edition variants of otherwise non-featured cars, such as the R8 GT and Viper ACR - should get their own category. They aren't spotted as frequently as the regular model, and usually don't get as much attention unless the spot does happen to get featured. I'm not saying that we need separate categories for every single model ever made (how many different Gallardo's has Lambo sprung on us?), but those that are markedly different or much more exclusive need separate categories.

I'm sure I could think of more, but off the top of my head I would like to see the following added to ES:
Aston Martin V12 Vantage (leave the regular Vantage category for all the V8 models)
Audi R8 GT
Dodge Viper ACR
Ferrari F360 Challenge Stradale
Ferrari F430 Scuderia
Ferrari 458 Speciale
Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series

wish they would create a category and feature all R8 GTs and Viper ACRs, those are incredibly rare as compared to Ferraris and Lamborghinis, plus like y'all said, it only gets attention if it just so happen to get featured.

Or you could just use the search feature and type in Scuderia or 16M and all the photos would come up that way.

I notice that not all R8 GTs are featured, which is why we should have a category for at least the R8 GTs.

I personally am madly in love with the Audi R8 GT so I try to feature just about every one I see as long as it's a decent picture.
