I thought I'd make a topic for all camera-related subjects, so if you want advice about a camera, want to give advice about a camera, or just brag about a camera, it goes here.

I'd like some advice about buying a new camera. Right now I am using a Nikon Coolpix S3, which I sort of took over from my dad (he got a new job a few years ago and doesn't need to use it as much), and want to upgrade.

My top priorities are:
*Good zoom range
*Ability to take good night pictures
*Good video-recording quality

Right now, I am considering staying with Nikon and picking up either a Coolpix L800-series (either an L810, L820, or L830) or a Coolpix P500-series (most likely a P510). I have been reading reviews of each on Amazon.com, and all have received overall very high praise.

I don't want to spend a ton on a camera. A Coolpix P510 is probably about as expensive as I'll go, but I will consider a used higher end camera if push comes to shove. Any advice or other recommendations?

So... You are looking for a better 'point and shoot' camera? Or a DSLR camera?

I guess P+S. They are fairly compact, and the photo quality of the ones I am considering is great (from what I've read).
