Hey guys,

A while back, I got the BSOD on my Win XP SP3 machine twice in a day. I started backing up my files, then nothing happened for several months. However, yesterday the BSOD returned once, and I've already had it appear twice today.

Should I look at a new computer? Should I take the machine to a computer store to get it repaired?

Any help is appreciated greatly!

But seriously, i'm not sure. Back everything up in case, but if it happens again, you should look into getting something new.

Haha I guess I'm a bit frugal when it comes to big purchases. I haven't really had any problems with this machine before, and since most programs still accept XP I haven't needed to upgrade. I will have to get a completely new computer though, not just an OS, because there's no way there would be enough memory to support Windows 7 (I'm definitely not getting 8).

But I rely on this computer a lot as my dad is out of town fairly frequently, and the other computers we have (that are not in use now) are all XP, but they're sloooooow, so losing my main computer would be a pretty big setback.

Bite the bullet and move to Mac. I was a windows user for 20+ years (sold windows based software). Finally got rid of every Windows PC/Laptop. As each one suffered a BSOD I replaced it with iMac, MBPro, etc. Never been happier. My experience goes back to Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Win 95, WINNT, Win 98, XP, etc - so I have big history with Windows. I've been on Macs for 4 years and haven't crashed EVER (probably jinxed myself just then). I started out buying used machines on Craiglslist that still had warranty.

I also run Parallels on my Mac's so I can boot a windows virtual if I ever needed it (needed it for Visio last year). Here's a kicker - my Mac books Windows in a virtual FASTER than my friends new laptop can boot windows - go figure.

It's a desktop.

Part of my problem about going to Mac is that I already have a pretty good infastructure for the computer that I think would go to waste if I got a Mac. I won't deny that Macs are probably the better OS though; I don't know many of people who have them, but those that do NEVER complain about them.

I just got a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 and it is the best thing I've ever owned! EXTREMELY fast! Portable, and when I am at my desk I plug it into an 18inch monitor. Acts like a desktop. I absolutely love it!!! Runs big programs no problem. I can use photoshop while watching a movie and downloading other stuff without any lag.

Look for help in tech forums, not car spotting forums. There are people there who will be able to help you much better.

I will. I was just hoping there was someone who knew more about computers on here than I do.

Can't remember exactly. It wasn't a familiar program. If it happens again I'll try to take note.
