I don't want to start an argument here, but I find that generally, people who drive automatics focus on the road less than people who drive manuals. I am the same way. When I drive a manual, especially in traffic, I am forced to stay involved with the car because I have to shift, and therefore think ahead before shifting, which keeps me alert while I'm behind the wheel. Conversely, when I hop in my mom's car (which has an automatic), I do not have to actually think about anything related to the road while I'm driving. The car is doing everything for me (except steering and operating the pedals), so my mind wanders away from the road towards the radio, then the parking lots, then to the stores where the parking lots are located, then inside the stores, then I glance back at the actual freaking task at hand and SCREECH "sorry guys I didn't notice the light had turned red."
