I don't think you're impressing the audience you intended to.

I should've worded it differently. Too much dang college work hanging over my head lol. Usually, when I mention that I drive a manual, the girls are like "what? Nice! No one else I know drives one of those."

You must be speaking to aliens. I've never met a girl that said that ever, lol.

No lol I'm serious, like almost every girl I've met has said something to that effect. A few of them have wanted me to teach them how to drive one.

I'm still convinced they're aliens. That or they're all transvestites/transsexuals.

I'm pretty sure you're the one who's talking to aliens, because some of my friends and extended family have had the same experiences that I have. :P

I've been driving both manual and automatic cars on and off for about 4 years now and I actually prefer the automatics. Yes, manual gives you more control over the car itself but automatic lets you put more concentration into the actual fun part of the car, watching the road to make sure you don't crash while going fast.

Automatic lets you concentrate on the fun part of the car? But for me, shifting manually is the fun part.

I don't want to start an argument here, but I find that generally, people who drive automatics focus on the road less than people who drive manuals. I am the same way. When I drive a manual, especially in traffic, I am forced to stay involved with the car because I have to shift, and therefore think ahead before shifting, which keeps me alert while I'm behind the wheel. Conversely, when I hop in my mom's car (which has an automatic), I do not have to actually think about anything related to the road while I'm driving. The car is doing everything for me (except steering and operating the pedals), so my mind wanders away from the road towards the radio, then the parking lots, then to the stores where the parking lots are located, then inside the stores, then I glance back at the actual freaking task at hand and SCREECH "sorry guys I didn't notice the light had turned red."

For me speeding around a wet corner is the fun part.

Lol. Just saw that.

That's the other fun part, forgetting you're driving and starting to spot.

I took a photo of a Z06 that drove by me on the very first day I ever drove a car, while I was driving.

Lol but you can still do that with a manual. It's not like you have to shift every 2 seconds.

Well, when you've had as many close calls as I have - both being the inattentive driver of an automatic, and having other inattentive drivers about to run you off the road - it starts losing its comedic value really fast.

And you can drive around a curve in the rain with a manual. I do it all the time : )

I don't know, I guess you guys are right that you don't have to constantly shift and it can be fun at times. I think I'd still take an automatic though cause that's just my preference. It also depends on the car though. I learned how to drive in a manual version of the Scion XB and that one was both easy and fun to drive, then she got the automatic Escalade which I loved but there was basically no driving experience at all to that one, it did everything for you, and now she has a manual Dodge Dart that I just can't get ahold of so I quit even trying to drive it. My favorite was the Escalade though.
