@WIcarspotter spectator lot spots will be accepted, but they will need to be at a higher quality to be accepted into the official gallery. None of your spots will be deleted anymore, the ones that are not accepted will still be viewable on your profile.
As far as retro design, not sure what you mean by that. This site hasn't been updated since 2009. The new site design will be very lean in that it will be all about the galleries and photos, the UI is going to be minimal. But I may keep the current version if people really still want the old site (some people hate change, so I may do that)
@gregg I love the idea that you can categorize the cars. I am from Wisconsin, and I go to Road America. Road America is a racetrack. Can I upload photos from the spectator lot? I love how the website is retro; could you try to keep some of the retro designs of the website? Thanks
@WIcarspotter - the new site is going to allow all spotters with at least one approved photo to help categorize all photos on the site. When three spotters agree, that photo will be automatically categorized into its correct category. We are also going to use the community to help categorize the photos by type of spot, like if it's near a car show or a dealership or if it's a random spot. (of course I will also have tools to catch anyone trying to game the system - with very strict bans in place)
As far as official community moderators who oversee which photos get featured, approved (and a new one - highlighted), I will be personally doing that myself in the beginning. Once traffic and popularity grows again (hopefully), then I will open that up to more moderators. I haven't decided how I'll be doing that yet, but it will probably be open to spotters with a long history who want to volunteer, there will probably be a trial period to make sure moderation is fair and excellent. That sort of thing. I will announce it when we are looking for more moderators.
@gregg - I am very grateful. Also, there should be no limits on the dimensions of the photos. I usually take photos with my mobile phone, a Samsung S22. Thank you so much for your attention! And bring on the new website!
@WIcarspotter - the goal is to add the models before spotters catch them on the streets. But if we're missing any models, it's going to be easy to suggest a new model or variant when uploading the photos. Community editors will constantly verify and update the new models. The redesign allows us to change things very easily. This was one of the weaknesses of our current system is that it was a little difficult to add new models all the time.
@gregg Thank you very much. I believe that is sufficient. However, there are times when, if I take photos at night, the files end up being 40 or 50 MB in size.
@WIcarspotter - the upload page is very much improved, don't worry. The submission process is going to be a lot more efficient. In most cases, the spot date and location will be automatically taken from the photo and there's going to be an auto-suggest feature where as you start typing it's going to suggest all the applicable models and variants. The model list will be complete and up-to-date with the latest production vehicles, and with over 4,000 variants.
Oh, and also, batch uploading of spots is available. You can upload a bunch at once, it will know which photos go with each other. (and you will be able to upload up to 20 photos per spot - but only 2 will be shown in the galleries - the full set can be viewed on the spot page)
@gregg, apologies for the intrusion, but the only change you really need to make is to allow photo uploads with larger file sizes (more MB). When I take photos, I usually shoot at maximum quality, but I have to drop them to the lowest quality just to be able to post them. And, of course, make sure the system actually accepts them.
can't wait for you guys to start using the new site, it's soooooo much better in every way. (well, I don't know, people don't like change, some of you may hate it, who knows).
