I've never driven stick in a video game but I can almost assure you that it is not going to be anything like the real thing lol. The only way to learn manual is to actually do it in a real car. I knew exactly what I was doing when I started but I still stalled a bunch of times.

Does your family at least have a car with a manual? My mom didn't get a manual car until like 4 years after I got my license.

We have a Tacoma and an Outlander. The Mitsubishi has a manual mode with paddles, and the Tacoma has a manual mode with a sequential I think.
