Catholic. Being an atheist is just arrogant imo. Can you prove some higher power doesn't exist? Nope, it is impossible. Just call yourself agnostic.

i go to church every week because my parents are and think i am christian. but im agnostic. you can't prove that he is real, you cant prove that he isn't real, but pretty much anything to do with the bible, i personally dont think thats true. like we know that god didn't make the earth in just 7 days and evolution is a fact. so far if i were to be religious i would follow the lines of deism. which says that god created the universe then let it play itself out. which makes alot more sense than him/her/it listening to our every prayer and planning out every detail of billions of peoples lives for billions of years. the only argument a christian has is "but i have faith".

I can't prove to anyone else that it's true. I can only tell you why I ultimately believe there is some higher power.

It's simple imo. Nobody can prove to me that something came from nothing. There has to be some sort of starting point to the universe. Even if there are parallel universes floating around and they are constantly being recycled or created from one another(as suggested by the popular theory of the multiverse) then all this creation of universes still had to have a beginning. Some power completely beyond our understanding had to tip the first domino so to speak. If you're interested in the matter I suggest looking into Aquinas's 5 proofs.

Whether or not this higher power had anything to do with a baby born in Jerusalem in 1 AD is certainly questionable. Nearly all historians believe Jesus existed. I believe that Jesus was a good man and he preached good things and as for the rest, well, I'm still debating what to believe or not to believe. The Bible obviously wasn't meant to be taken literally and there are discrepancies/contradictions so there's a lot to sift through.

I call myself a Catholic because I believe most of what the church says is true. Thankfully modern Catholicism allows for debating without having your tongue cut out.

If you want to discuss more, PM me. Exoticspotter forum isn't really the place to have theological discussion lol.

I wouldn't necessarily consider that a bad thing. You said in your description that you believe evolution is true. Although many people try to claim it as a fact, it definitely has not been proven. I'm assuming you've seen the evidence that secular scientists and school teachers wanted you to see, and decided to have faith that evolution is true based on that. For me, I've seen enough evidence to support creation that that is what I believe to be true.

To get back to your last point you made, how is it that it's any different for an atheist? No one can ever prove that there isn't a god, but atheists have faith that there is none. No one can ever prove that there is a god, but people have faith that there is.

Public schools teach it as a fact because today's society wants to take God out of everything. (Then they wonder where he is when bad things happen???)
Evolution is a theory. It has not been proven.

Shane is right. It hasn't been proven. It's just widely accepted as what probably happened. In the same way that the big bang probably happened. I think evolution is a real thing but that doesn't change much. It doesn't disprove the existence of a higher power. Maybe that higher power intended for evolution to occur. In the same way God didn't create the world in 7 days, he didn't just say, "let there be man" and people appeared and started walking around.
