Literally the only good thing about this car is the badge. You would have to pay me to buy one.

Speaking from experience?

I have eyes.

Picture this: You just picked up a decent Mondial for about 25k, and you consider using it as your daily driver. What I'm asking is, would a Mondial cater to YOUR needs as an individual?

It probably wouldn't work as a daily driver for me. I mean, if I owned one I'd definitely take it out a few times a week, but it wouldn't be my daily driver. If I was looking for an exotic to be used as my daily driver, I'd splurge just a bit more and pick up an early model NSX. You're not looking at buying one, are you?

I would definitely own one, and realistically, its your best bet at owning a Ferrari. That said, I don't think I'd want it as my daily driver. Even if you do get a a pristine condition one that has been well kept its still a really old car and probably will break. A QP is probably your best bet at that price range if you really want to go exotic.

My stupid self says yes. It's a Ferrari. Go big or go home attitude. A Ferrari is better than a BMW. But then my reasonable self comes in and no. In not spending $25k in 5 years on a $25k car

Not remotely true in any way.

Then why was it so cheap

If it were new today it'd be $183,000. How is that cheap?

You can get a Rolls Royce Silver Spur for less than $20,000. That doesn't mean it was meant to be affordable.

Yes, but used. Even new Mondials didn't cost too much.

You must be joking. Base price was $183,000 (with inflation).

When new in 1980, a Mondial cost $64,000. Just a few years later in 1984, the 288 GTO has a price of $83,000. Even a 308 ran for around the high 40s to low 50s in 1980.

Oh jesus, this has just turned into a usual ES argument fest where everyone claims to know everything.

So here's my 2 cents...
Yeah, $25k is cheap compared to other Ferraris. Yes, they do require a labor intensive engine-out (every 30k miles). No, they were not meant to be cheap and affordable compared to other Ferraris, but they were made for the American market and for crash standards they were made unappealing (to today's standards) and cheap. And to put it in perspective of the opportunists, would you truly rather say "I'm in the (insert poser car here) over there" than "Yes, thats my Ferrari"??? Doubt it...

I submitted the Mondial info page to the admin for the site. Here's some straight facts on the car: Mondial Info

I was watching the show Car Chasers and on it the guy picked up a Ferrari Mondial and a Testarossa as Salvage titles for 65,000$. He fixed them up (I'm assuming, I was asleep for the first half of the episode) and resold the pair for 75,000$.

I didn't know 60-70k was so expensive in the 80s...
